You Don't Understand Me


You don't understand me,
no clue what's in my soul;
the fear & panic that grips me,
afraid I will never be whole.

You don't understand me,
nor the insecurities within my heart;
my feelings of inadequacy,
tear my world apart.

You don't understand me,
fear of losing you haunts me deep inside;
everyday I wonder why you love & want me,
and how long I have before those feelings subside.

You don't understand me,
nor the emptiness I feel;
Often I wonder if it is all a dream,
sometimes it seems so surreal.

You don't understand me,
nor see the pain in my eyes;
inside I feel so broken,
while you're sleeping I often cry.

You don't understand me,
words you say in anger are etched inside my head;
they replay in my mind each day without fail,
bringing on such sadness as if they had just been said.

You don't understand me,
I can't become who you want me to be;
I don't have what it takes to make you happy,
nor possess the strength to set you free.
